1. Key Stage program overview

Key Stage is a national program of the British Ministry of Education, applied to high school students between the ages of 5 and 16. The program is affiliated with the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) which provided by the UK Department of Education.

The Key Stage program includes many subjects, of which there are 3 main subjects: Math, English and Science, and is divided into stages as follows:

    • Key Stage 1: Year 1 – Year 2
    • Key Stage 2: Year 3 – Year 6
    • Key Stage 3: Year 7 – Year 9
    • Key Stage 4: Year 10 – Year 11 (IGCSE)
    • Key Stage 5: Year 12 – Year 13 (A-level)

2. Is doing outside extra Key Stage class necessary?

At the small grade levels (from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3), the curriculum is not as heavy as the domestic curriculum. However, additional learning outside of Key Stage is still extremely necessary as this stage provides an overview, which students need to master if they want to get good grades at higher levels.

In addition, the actual time spent in school is also quite limited, often not enough to help students understand the foundation of basic subjects. The extra-curricular Key Stage class can both help students keep up with the school program, while also helping to review and systemize old lessons in a methodical way.
