FRENCH COURSES AT INTERTU EDUCATION

French language is one of the second languages that many people choose to learn. This language will be relatively easy for people who speak English or already have an English background. Fluency in both English and French is a great advantage for those looking for work in multinational or France companies in Vietnam.

1. A brief introduction to French

Besides English, this language is also the official language of the United Nations, the European Union and some other major organizations in the world. There are about 70 million native French speakers, around 275 million speakers of the language in the world and it is the second most widely spoken language in the European Union.

In addition to France, it is also an official or co-official language in more than 20 countries in North America, Europe such as Quebec – Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Monaco, Haiti… and African countries, which used to be French colonies, collectively known as Francophone.

French belongs to Romance languages and contains tones including: accent grave, accent aigu, accent circonflexe, accent tréma, la cédille… Having accents will help you easily read the text even without the phonetic transcription.

In French, all words in a sentence (except verbs) will be formed by gender as masculine and feminine. This is a distinctive feature compared to English, which makes you memorize more to correctly determine the gender of words in a sentence both in speaking and in writing.

In terms of pronunciation, it is easier to pronounce because it does not focus on final consonants to distinguish homonyms like English, but in return it will be more difficult to pronounce nasal vowels.

2. Should learn French or not?

There’s no reason why learning this language won’t be useful. Despite not as popular as English, French will have certain benefits when the global community of this language has nearly 275 million people.

    • Annual scholarships from the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and France universities are offered for many international students, who have a good command of French, to pursue education in a developed country like France.
    • Vietnamese students graduating from Francophone training programs always find stable jobs because the competition is not as high as that of English.
    • If you travel to France or African countries, Switzerland, Canada, Monaco and many other places, communicating in French is super useful because not all countries in the world speak English.
    • On average 300,000 tourists from France come to Vietnam every year and not all of them understand or prefer to be given guides in English, so Francophone jobs in the tourism industry are always abundant.
    • Knowing French is an edge over your peers either in recruitment or in scholarship applications since the number of people learning it is limited.
    • In the modern era where global trade is flourishing, companies around the world are expanding their operations and to find a job at a France company with a branch or transaction office in Vietnam is not problem.
