WACE Mathematics

Learn About The Subject

The WACE Mathematics program is designed to equip students with a solid mathematical competency, focusing on reasoning, logical thinking, and practical application. Instead of a single pathway, WACE Math offers different levels (Applications, Methods, Specialist), allowing students to choose the path that best suits their academic and future career orientations. At any level, the course emphasizes the application of concepts from Algebra and Geometry to Calculus to solve problems in science, economics, and daily life.

Frequently Asked Questions About

WACE Mathematics

This is the mathematics curriculum under the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) system. It is a globally recognized certificate, especially by Australian universities.
These are the 3 main pathways:
Applications: Focuses on the practical applications of mathematics, suitable for majors that do not require in-depth mathematics.
Methods: Includes Calculus and Statistics, serving as a prerequisite for many university courses such as science, commerce, and health.
Specialist: Is the highest level, intended for majors in engineering, physics, and mathematics. Students must study this concurrently with Methods.
The final score for each WACE subject is typically calculated based on 50% from school-based assessments throughout the academic year and 50% from the final external examination organized by the WACE board. This demands consistent effort throughout the year.
Yes. The WACE is a widely recognized international qualification. Good results in Math Methods and Specialist are highly regarded by top universities in the UK, US, Canada, and many other countries.
The counseling team at Intertu will have a thorough discussion about the student's ability, interests, and intended university major. Based on that, we will advise on the most suitable Math pathway (Applications, Methods, or Specialist) to optimize the chances of getting into the desired major and university.
Our learning pathway always ensures the building of a solid foundational mathematical skill set. Teachers will train students in mental math, paper-based calculations, and the use of graphing calculators, helping them to be confident in all sections of the exam, with or without technological support.
