SAT Reading & Writing

Learn About SAT Reading & Writing

The Reading & Writing section is one of the two main components of the Digital SAT, accounting for 800 out of the total 1600 points. This section combines the Reading and Language skills from the previous version of the SAT, providing a comprehensive assessment of a student’s ability to read, synthesize, and analyze high-quality academic texts.

A major change in the Digital SAT is the shift from long passages to multiple short passages, each accompanied by a single question. This structure demands intense focus and precise analytical skills. The test evaluates four main skill areas: Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, and Standard English Conventions.

Frequently Asked Questions About

SAT Reading & Writing

This is now a combined section instead of two separate ones. The biggest change is in the format: multiple short passages, each with only one question, instead of a few long passages with multiple questions.
Unlike the old SAT, you don’t need to memorize obscure or rare words. However, you do need a solid foundation of academic vocabulary to fully understand nuanced passages. The focus is on understanding words in context rather than memorizing isolated definitions.
The key isn’t just speed — it’s active reading. Our teachers train students to quickly identify the main idea, the author’s purpose, and key evidence in each short passage. This approach is far more effective than simply trying to read faster.
We provide a systematic review program covering all the key grammar and punctuation rules tested on the SAT. Then, we use targeted practice to help students recognize common error patterns and answer these questions quickly and accurately.
For students applying to top programs in humanities, law, or social sciences, scores between 750–800 are very competitive. For most other competitive universities, a score above 700 reflects strong college readiness.
Tuition depends on the total number of learning hours and the chosen level of support service (Standard, Premium, Platinum). For a detailed quote, please contact Intertu Education’s advisory team directly.
