OSSD Science

Learn About The Subject

The OSSD Science program opens up an interdisciplinary journey of discovery, helping students enhance their understanding of core concepts in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth & Space Science. The course goes beyond theory to place special emphasis on the interactive relationship between science, technology, society, and the environment (STSE). Students are encouraged to develop their scientific investigation skills by independently planning and conducting experiments and research to solve practical problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About

OSSD Science

Similar to other subjects in the OSSD program, the final grade for Science is calculated based on 70% from assignments, projects, lab reports, and tests throughout the course, and 30% from the final exam. This demands consistent effort from the student.
The OSSD program offers separate courses for each subject: Biology (SBI3U/4U), Chemistry (SCH3U/4U), and Physics (SPH3U/4U). Students can choose to study one or more subjects depending on their interests and the requirements of their intended university major.
STSE is a core component of the Ontario science curriculum. It focuses on helping students analyze and evaluate the impacts of science and technology on society and the environment, thereby fostering the awareness of a responsible global citizen.
The biggest difference is OSSD's continuous assessment model (70/30), which helps reduce the pressure of high-stakes final exams compared to IB and A-Level. Additionally, OSSD Science places a special emphasis on interdisciplinary issues and practical applications through the STSE component.
Teachers at Intertu guide students through the entire process of a scientific investigation: from forming a hypothesis and designing an experiment (including virtual labs) to analyzing data and presenting a complete lab report that meets the standards of the OSSD program.
Absolutely. The Grade 11 and 12 University Preparation (U-level) science courses are specifically designed to prepare students for university and are highly regarded by universities worldwide. The investigation and report-writing skills developed in the program provide an excellent foundation for university-level study.
