Learn About The Subject

The Key Stage 2 Science program is a pivotal stage that helps students (aged 7-11) transition from simple observation to systematically developing Scientific Enquiry skills. The course equips them with foundational knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, while encouraging them to ask their own questions, plan experiments, gather evidence, and draw conclusions. The goal is to help students not only understand the natural world but also to think and work like a scientist.

Frequently Asked Questions About

Key Stage 2 Science

This is the Science program under the National Curriculum for England for students aged 7-11 (equivalent to Years 3 to 6). The program focuses on developing a deeper understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, with a special emphasis on scientific enquiry skills.
Key Stage 2 shifts from simple observation to systematic investigation. Students are expected to plan their own fair tests, accurately collect and record data, and draw evidence-based conclusions.
While there may not be a formal practical exam, the written papers heavily assess scientific enquiry skills. Questions will require students to interpret results from a given experiment, suggest improvements to a method, or plan an investigation.
With our 1-on-1 method, teachers can use practical and relatable examples (e.g., explaining how forces in Physics affect animal movement in Biology) to help your child see the interesting connections between the fields, making science more understandable and cohesive.
The main topics in Key Stage 2 include: Living things and their habitats, Properties and changes of materials, Earth and Space, Forces and Magnets, Electricity, and Light.
The scientific enquiry and analytical skills developed in Key Stage 2 are the absolute foundation for success in Secondary level Science. It prepares students to approach more advanced topics systematically and critically.
