Frequently Asked Questions About

Key Stage 2 English

This is the English program under the National Curriculum for England for students aged 7-11 (equivalent to Years 3 to 6). This stage focuses on developing deep reading comprehension, structured writing, and a love for literature.
If Key Stage 1 focuses on learning to read and write basics, Key Stage 2 shifts to applying those skills. The reading texts become longer and more complex, writing skills require clear paragraph structure, and requirements for text analysis begin to appear.
We understand that. At Intertu, the teacher will select books with engaging topics that are appropriate for your child's age and interests. We combine reading with exciting activities such as discussions, role-playing, and drawing to turn reading into a fun and anticipated experience.
During this stage, students will learn how to plan and draft, write in different genres (stories, reports, poems), organize writing into logical paragraphs, and use a wider range of vocabulary and sentence structures.
Grammar is taught contextually through reading and writing. Students will learn about different word classes, more complex sentence structures, and punctuation rules in practical contexts to understand why and when to use them.
The analytical reading and structured writing skills developed in Key Stage 2 are the essential foundation for tackling the academic demands of the Secondary level, where they will have to write formal essays and analyze much more complex texts.
