Frequently Asked Questions About

IGCSE Global Perspectives

The main focus of the subject is to develop transferable skills such as research, analysis, evaluation, reflection, communication, and collaboration. Global issues (e.g., climate change, poverty, technology...) are used as contexts and content for students to practice and develop these skills.
Assessment in IGCSE Global Perspectives typically includes three main components: a Written Exam assessing the ability to analyze and evaluate sources of information; an Individual Report (IR) assessing research, analytical, and presentation skills on an independent issue; and a Team Project (TP) assessing the ability to collaborate, solve problems, and present group work results.
IGCSE Global Perspectives is highly interdisciplinary. It encourages students to apply knowledge and perspectives from other subjects such as History, Geography, Economics, Science, Languages, etc., to gain a deeper understanding of global issues. Conversely, the critical thinking, research, and communication skills developed in this subject also greatly support learning in other subjects.
It is very beneficial. The skills developed in IGCSE Global Perspectives, particularly independent research, multi-perspective analysis, source evaluation, critical thinking, and academic writing, are an extremely important foundation for many subjects in the IBDP. It is particularly useful and has significant similarities with the requirements of Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE).
The subject equips students with essential skills that are highly valued by universities and employers worldwide in the 21st century. These include the ability to solve complex problems, work effectively both independently and in a team, think critically and deeply, communicate persuasively, and have a clear awareness of global issues. These skills are suitable for any career path.
