IB Digital Society is a revised and improved replacement for ITGS, with a stronger focus on researching, analyzing, and evaluating the social, ethical, economic, and political impacts of digital technology through an inquiry-based lens. It is distinct from Computer Science, which delves into the technical aspects, programming, and theoretical computer science.
Both levels examine the core concepts, contexts, and content of the subject. However, HL demands a deeper level of analysis and evaluation, explores more complex case studies, and includes an extension focusing on analyzing "challenges and interventions" within digital society. HL examinations also have higher academic requirements.
Absolutely not. Digital Society does not require any programming skills. The subject focuses on developing critical thinking, research skills, and the ability to analyze and evaluate the relationship between technology and society, rather than on creating technology itself.
The IA for this subject is an "Inquiry Project." Students will choose a real-world problem, situation, or phenomenon related to digital society, formulate a research question, collect and analyze information/data from various sources, and then present their findings and analyses/evaluations systematically.
