ACT Science

Learn About ACT Science

The Science section is one of the four main multiple-choice sections of the ACT. One very important thing to understand: this is not a test of science knowledge, but rather a test of scientific reading comprehension and reasoning skills. All the information you need to answer the questions is provided in the passages, graphs, and charts included in the test.

This section is designed to measure your ability to interpret, analyze, evaluate, and solve problems within a scientific context. The questions are presented through three main formats: Data Representation, Research Summaries, and Conflicting Viewpoints.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About

ACT Science

No. Most questions can be answered solely using the information provided in the passages and data visuals. The test measures your reasoning skills, not your science knowledge. However, having a basic science foundation can help you read the passages faster.
Yes, the ACT Science section is widely considered the most time-pressured section of the entire ACT. You have 35 minutes to answer 40 questions based on 6–7 passages. Mastering a time management strategy is absolutely essential.
This format presents two or more scientists’ or students’ hypotheses about a specific scientific phenomenon. The questions require you to understand, compare, and contrast their arguments and evidence.
Our preparation focuses on strategy and skill-building, not memorization. We teach proven techniques for quickly reading passages and interpreting visuals, a systematic approach to each of the three passage types, and intensive timed practice to build speed and confidence.
Scores range from 1 to 36.
For highly competitive universities, especially in STEM fields, a score of 30 or higher is considered very strong.
For most selective schools, a high 20s score (e.g., 27+) is a solid benchmark.
Tuition depends on the total number of study hours and the level of support service (Standard, Premium, Platinum) you choose. For a detailed quote, please contact Intertu Education’s advisory team directly.
