ACT Reading

Learn About ACT Reading

The Reading section is one of the four main multiple-choice sections on the ACT, designed to measure your reading comprehension skills. Its main goal is to assess your ability to read carefully, draw logical inferences from text using evidence, and integrate information from multiple sources.

The section consists of 40 questions in 35 minutes, based on four long passages. These passages always come from four specific categories: Prose Fiction / Literary Narrative, Social Science, Humanities, Natural Science

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About

ACT Reading

ACT Reading has stricter time pressure, with less time per question. Its passages always fall into the same four predictable categories. Meanwhile, the new digital SAT uses multiple short passages, while ACT continues to use four longer passages.
There are multiple strategies. Some students succeed by reading the passage carefully first. Others prefer to skim, read the questions, and then go back to find answers. Our instructors will help you determine which strategy works best for you.
The key is active reading, not just moving your eyes faster. This includes identifying the main idea of each paragraph, highlighting keywords as you read, understanding the structure and purpose of the passage, and practicing consistently with timed drills to build both speed and comprehension.
We focus on a strategic approach by teaching mastery of each of the four passage types, providing specific techniques for each question type (main idea, detail, inference, vocabulary-in-context), and offering advanced time management strategies to build speed and confidence.
Scores range from 1 to 36. For top universities, a score of 30 or higher is very competitive. For most selective schools, a high 20s score (e.g., 27+) is a solid benchmark.
Tuition depends on the total number of study hours and the level of support service (Standard, Premium, Platinum) you choose. For a detailed quote, please contact Intertu Education’s advisory team directly.
