The subject combines creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and technical knowledge to design and create products/solutions that meet real-world needs. Students will go through the entire design process, from research to prototyping and evaluation.
Basic drawing skills are an advantage, but more important are creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. Practical and tool-using skills (including CAD) will be developed during the course.
CAD is an important tool that helps students visualize ideas, create accurate 3D models, prepare for prototyping, and understand modern manufacturing processes.
The design and make project (Non-Exam Assessment - NEA or Coursework) typically accounts for a significant proportion (around 50% or more depending on the examination board) of the total A-Level D&T grade, comprehensively assessing the student's abilities.
This subject provides a good foundation for fields such as Product Design, Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering, Production Management, and many areas requiring a combination of creativity and technical skills.
Intertu helps systematize theoretical knowledge about materials, production processes, and design principles; supports creative idea development, CAD software skills (through guidance and exercises), and particularly provides consultation and direction for effectively undertaking the coursework/NEA project.
