New Zealand ambassador – Mrs. Wendy Matthews states that about 2.200 Vietnamese students is currently studying, conducting research in New Zealand. Several New Zealand scholarship are offered for international students in general and Vietnamese students in specific annually.
The embassy also states that besides the annual 30 scholarships from the government, universities do offer many financial for students. New Zealand emphasizes on providing scholarship program, especially from the New Zealand ASEAN, or international PhD. Research scholarship. Furthermore, there are also some interesting programs for students such as visa pathway, which allows student to stay in the country after finishing the studying, or working during vacation… Some specific programs are mentioned:
- New Zealand ASEAN award: Scholarship for master’s degree, focuses on courses that are suitable for New Zealand and ASEAN. Vietnamese can only have 30 scholarships in one year.
- The English Language Training for Officials (ELTO): Officials are going to attend a 22-week-course course with a certain topic in New Zealand.
- Many other scholarships are offered by different universities.
