The WACE English program is designed to comprehensively develop students’ communication, analytical, creative, and critical thinking skills. The course not only helps students master language conventions such as grammar, punctuation, and spelling, but also focuses on creating diverse text types and communicating effectively in academic as well as real-life environments. Through analyzing and responding to texts, students are encouraged to participate in presentations, debates, and to build an awareness of cultural and social values.

Common Challenges When Learning WACE English

Difficulty in in-depth analysis of diverse texts: Requires the ability to interpret literary, journalistic, and media texts and to understand the linguistic techniques used by the author.
Challenge in writing creative and persuasive essays: Demands the ability to construct logical arguments, use language effectively, and write in various styles.

How is WACE English graded?

The final grade for the course is calculated based on 50% from school-based assessments (essays, oral presentations, creative writing, tests, etc.) throughout the academic year and 50% from the final external examination organized by the WACE board.

What English courses are available in the WACE program?

WACE offers different English pathways, the most common being English ATAR (a university-preparation course focusing on the analysis of diverse texts), Literature ATAR (focusing in-depth on classic and contemporary literary works), and EAL/D (English as an Additional Language/Dialect for eligible students).

How does WACE English differ from IB or A-Level English?

Besides the continuous assessment model (50/50), WACE English often has a strong focus on Australian literature and contexts. The program also emphasizes "creating texts," requiring students to write in various genres, not limited to just analytical essays.

My child is shy about public speaking. How does Intertu provide support?

What does "creating texts" mean?
