Key Stage 2 Mathematics

Learn About The Subject

The Key Stage 2 Mathematics program is a crucial stage that helps students (aged 7-11) transition from basic mathematical concepts to the ability to reason and solve more complex problems. The course not only aims to help students master the four operations, fractions, and decimals, but also focuses on developing deep mathematical thinking. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge to solve multi-step problems, explain their reasoning, and build a solid foundation for Secondary school.

Frequently Asked Questions About

Key Stage 2 Mathematics

This is the Mathematics program under the National Curriculum for England for students aged 7-11 (equivalent to Years 3 to 6). This stage builds and consolidates essential mathematical skills, preparing students for the Secondary level (Key Stage 3).
Key Stage 2 demands greater complexity and depth. Students will transition from basic calculations to more complex operations (multiplication and division of large numbers), work in-depth with fractions and decimals, and begin to strongly develop reasoning and multi-step problem-solving skills.
Very important. The program aims to help students become fluent with number facts (like multiplication tables) and mental calculation strategies to solve problems quickly and efficiently, rather than relying entirely on paper-based calculations.
With our 1-on-1 method, the teacher will guide your child on how to "unlock" a word problem: from underlining keywords and identifying data to choosing the appropriate operation and presenting the solution steps logically. Regular practice will help your child become much more confident.
Yes. During this stage, students will learn to interpret and present data using bar charts, pictograms, tables, and line graphs, which is an important skill for many other subjects.
Key Stage 2 is the core foundation. A student who masters calculation skills, fractions, and especially problem-solving skills at this stage will have a significant advantage when approaching more abstract concepts at the Secondary level, such as Algebra.
